Workshops

This year, all students will take all 4 workshops. We will be rotating between vocal sectionals, choreography sectionals, and workshops in the mornings, with full on show rehearsals in the afternoons.

Elementary students will take one workshop per day together: Step, Hip Hop, Jazz & Irish.

Middle School and High School students will all have the opportunity to take these workshops:

Gospel Singing, Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theatre Auditioning

Workshop Descriptions

Gospel Singing: Gospel music explores the critical role of sermon and song. Deeply rooted in Black Culture, gospel music, with its distinctive 3-part harmony and call and response stylistic approach, helped black people face and cope with the harsh realities of America during the early 1900s. Today, it serves as a sound of inspiration both in and outside of the church.

Hip Hop: Authentic Hip-Hop dancing and technique. Students will have fun getting down to your favorite hip hop tunes!

Jazz: A style of theatrical dance performed to jazz or popular music. Get ready to bring on the sass in this class!

Musical Theatre Auditions: A master class taught by local Broadway Native Juan Pineda, he will go through how to properly audition for Musical Theatre Opportunities. Feel free to come prepared with a short song as he will take volunteers to coach in front of everyone!

Step: (ELEMENTARY ONLY) Stepping is a distinctive, percussive sound using the performer’s whole body. Introduced in the early 1900’s, it became common among Black Greek-Lettered organizations to celebrate “crossing the burning sands into Greekdom” while paying homage to their ancestors who used percussive sounds as a means of communication to elude capture by Rebel forces. Today, stepping is enjoyed by people from all cultures and walks of life.
